'George' gets West End reign

"The Madness of George III," the historical drama by Alan Bennett ("The History Boys") revived for a U.K. tour by helmer Christopher Luscombe, will transfer to the West End's Apollo Theater for a limited run Jan. 18 - March 31 with a Jan. 23 opening. Designed by Janet Bird and lit by Oliver Fenwick, the production stars David Haig as George III, the third Hanoverian king of Great Britain, in a 20-strong cast that also includes Clive Francis, Beatie Edney and Madhav Sharma. Originally produced by the National Theater in 1991, the play was later made into a film "The Madness of King George" helmed by Nicholas Hytner. Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.com
